What does design thinking feel like?
Design thinking is different and therefore it feels different.
Firstly it is not only convergent. It is a series of divergent and convergent steps. During divergence we are creating choices and during convergence we are making choices. For people who are looking to have a good sense of the answer, or at least a previous example of one, before they start divergence is frustrating. It almost feels like you are going backwards and getting further away from the answer but this is the essence of creativity. Divergence needs to feel optimistic, exploratory and experimental but it often feels foggy to people who are more used to operating on a plan. Divergence has to be supported by the culture. ...

DINBELG
This site is the result of the research project "DINBelg 2005". The aim is to gather up-to-date anthropometric dimensions of the Belgian population.
The human body dimensions are useful for designers of products, interiors or buildings,... The ergonomists can also use these data when designing or evaluating work places.
To enhance the user-friendliness of the dimensions, 433 students of the Flemish design schools were questioned by means of a written questionnaire. It was asked how the students use anthropometry nowadays and what they would suggest for improvement.
The navigation on the left will help you further to concrete dimensions or extra information about the calculations.

The future of design is human-centered
Low-key and thoughtful, IDEO founder David Kelley seems the antithesis of the "design star" -- and indeed, he says that product design, within the past two decades, has become much less about the design and more about the user who'll be experiencing it. In this classic 2002 talk, he shares some video of products coming out of IDEO, including Prada's famous high-tech dressing rooms, "Dilbert's ultimate cubicle," and a gotta-have-it gadget called Spyfish. He finishes by discussing a project he's passionate about: ApproTEC -- now called KickStart -- offering designs that give Kenyans the means to end poverty.

Just found this video on youtube about the inspiration for Nike's revolutionary Air Max 1s (you know, the shoes with the air cushion you can see). Turns out, it all started with a trip to the art museum.
"When you sit down to design something--and it can be anything: a car, a toaster, a house, a tall building, a shoe--what you design is a culmination of everything you've seen and done in you life up to that point."

HOW IT FEELS TO HAVE A STROKE - JILL BOLTE
Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another.

PICTURE TO LEARN
If a picture is worth a thousand words, perhaps drawing and visualizing can help science students understand more than they get from their textbooks.
MIT research scientist and science photographer Felice Frankel is exploring this idea through "Picturing to Learn," an educational technique that is being tested at MIT.
Picturing to Learn is creating a data base of over 4000 drawings from various science undergraduate courses. Students are asked to respond to a homework question by creating a visual explanation whose purpose is to teach a high school senior about that particular phenomenon. They are also asked to "evaluate" their own drawings.
